Crypto Exchanges Embrace Traditional Assets as Trading Transforms

2 hours ago 535

The landscape of cryptocurrency exchanges has significantly shifted since the beginning of 2025, as these platforms have moved beyond primarily trading digital assets to include a spectrum of traditional financial offerings. This evolution has been fueled by regulatory advancements, a rise in tokenized asset issuers, and improved distribution networks. As a result, investors now enjoy access to stocks, ETFs, commodities, forex pairs, and pre-IPO company contracts through crypto trading platforms.

Centralized and decentralized exchanges have observed a notable uptick in transactions involving real-world assets (RWAs) and traditional financial products, as reported by CoinGecko. From January 2025 to May 2026, perpetual futures have significantly outpaced spot RWA markets in terms of growth and trading volume.

Milestone Achieved in Perpetual RWA Trading Volume

Since early 2025, the trading volume for perpetual futures tied to RWAs has skyrocketed from $230 million to an impressive $347.17 billion by May 2026. This substantial increase highlights the record-breaking pace of traditional finance integration within crypto exchanges.

In the first months of 2026, transactions in the TradFi perpetual futures market surpassed $1.32 trillion, overshadowing the $104.21 billion traded during the entire previous year.

During this period, MEXC listed a total of 358 products, comprising 199 spot RWA and 159 TradFi perpetual futures. Gate reached 224 RWA listings (78 spot, 146 perpetual), while WEEX posted 192 assets (84 spot, 108 perpetual).

Key observations include:

  • A sharp rise in the prevalence of perpetual futures over spot trading on exchanges.
  • Dominance by Binance, MEXC, and Hyperliquid in terms of TradFi perpetual trading volumes.
  • A substantial growth in tokenized stock trading despite still lagging behind conventional equity markets.
  • SpaceX leading the charge in pre-IPO tokenized contract trading.

Crypto exchanges are increasingly recognizing RWAs and TradFi products as integral to their future growth strategies. Accordingly, the robust expansion of perpetual futures highlights the rising importance of tokenized traditional assets in the rapidly changing digital ecosystem.
