As Team Liquid and Team Yandex faced off in a Dota 2 playoff match at The International 2026 in Shanghai, China, on August 20, two Polymarket whales placed opposing six-figure bets, amounting to $393,221.

Whale 1 (0x5dab…322e1) backed Team Liquid at 10:23 UTC with a $245,259 at entry odds of 58%, according to whale data from Predictbook.co. On the other hand, Whale 2 (0x6d20…9a165) countered at 10:39 UTC with a $147,962 at 55% odds. 

The game between Team Liquid and Team Yandex involved the Upper Bracket Quarterfinal of The International 2026 (TI15), the premier Dota 2 championship running August 13–23. As Team Yandex won Thursday’s match in a 2-0 sweep, Whale 2 walked away with roughly $460,300 across three winning bets, with Return on Investment (ROIs) ranging from 15.1% to 51.7%, as per metrics from Polymarketscan.

On the other hand, Whale 1 lost the bet and increased the total lifetime losses to $154,798. Meanwhile, whale 2 has a total profit and loss through Polymarket bets amounting to $843,146 at the time of publication.

At the time of writing, both of these Whales had opened a new bet against each other on Nigma Galaxy vs Team Falcons in a Dota 2 playoffs. Whale 1 placed a $65,213 margin on Team Falcons, and was already down $2,225 at the time of reporting. 

Whale 2 placed a $639,465 bet on Nigma Galaxy, with the trade already $192,448 in losses. Worth noting that Whale 1 has placed an order that Team Spirit will win The International 2026. 

Polymarket whales rush to Esport games

In the 11-day event, several Polymarket whales have been tracked by Predictbook. Furthermore, these high-stakes matches backed by GRID Esport, have attracted significant liquidity from Polymarket participants.

Over the past 24 hours, a whale (0xf177…55f6a) made more than $114,193 on Polymarket through betting in several Esport games. Another whale, (0xcd30…8f316) identified as BOOMBOYS.kiritych on Polymarket, was among the top Esport traders listed on Predictbook.

Over the past week, BOOMBOYS.kiritych made about $132,532 largely on Esport games. During the past 24 hours, a total of 28 large orders were listed on this platform, with nine signals involving Esport trades.

As for the International Playoffs, whale (0x5dab…322e1) opened three trades including betting on Team Spirit to win this tournament. In total, this whale had lost a total of $1,092,073 over the past week on Polymarket.

Following the Upper Bracket Quarterfinals on August 20, the remaining schedule includes the Upper Bracket Semifinals and Lower Bracket rounds on August 21–22, culminating in the Best-of-5 Grand Final on August 23. As such, more whales trading these esports games could be revealed.
