In an unexpected twist, XRP Ledger recently played a crucial role in a study conducted by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) focusing on validating official statistics. Following this development, XRP experienced a slight uptick, hovering near $1.39 with an increase of approximately 3%. The study marked a pioneering effort in integrating blockchain technology with traditional data verification methods, a move that could herald significant innovations in financial systems.
The XRPL Experiment Unveiled
The BIS report, numbered 1374 and titled “Blockchain-based approach for verifiable official statistics,” was released on September 2. As an entity known for fostering collaboration among central banks globally, BIS set out to test a system using XRP Ledger to record cryptographic fingerprints of official data sets, capturing only a summary value onto the ledger.
Interestingly, the data sets themselves were not stored on XRP Ledger. They underwent a cryptographic hashing process, resulting in a summary value that was then logged onto the ledger. This prototype was tested on XRPL Devnet, a separate environment for trial applications, not the live production network.
Is XRP Adopting This Approach?
This remarkable study does not imply that BIS is forming a partnership with Ripple, adopting XRP broadly, or transitioning central bank infrastructure to the XRP Ledger. It serves purely as a technical proof of concept.
The study demonstrated that it is feasible to anchor summary values necessary for verification on XRPL without moving the original official data sets onto the blockchain.
Recent market corrections have seen XRP maintain its position slightly above $1.35, consistently identifying it as a crucial technical threshold. This level is vital for short-term market perspectives as XRP remains close to its 200-day exponential moving average.
- XRP had previously surged to $1.70 before recent declines.
- Sellers were unable to exert sustained pressure below the 200-day moving average.
- The Relative Strength Index now sits around 62, showing a more balanced outlook.
- Maintaining $1.35 could prompt attempts at $1.45-$1.50.
- Dropping below this threshold might weaken the outlook towards $1.29.
This study, while focused on technical feasibility, paves the way for future consideration of blockchain technology in verifying and maintaining official statistical data. The implications of such integrations could revolutionize transparency and reliability in how financial and statistical data are handled moving forward.
