Bitcoin is going to move back to $100,000, but it might take up to 18 months for the catalyst to align, according to Anthony Scaramucci.Β
The SkyBridge Capital founder told CNBCβs Squawk Box on Tuesday that βthis is clearly a bitcoin bear market,β in response to the point that the price has not really moved much over the past months.
Scaramucci says $100,000 BTC might take a while
Scaramucci said bitcoin has been stuck in its narrowest volatility band in five years for about nine weeks now, with prices roughly flat since the war in Iran started in February.
He offered three explanations for the consolidation, which include miners redirecting computing power to AI, capital flight into AI stocks, and bitcoinβs four-year market cycle.Β
Despite all of these, Scaramucci pointed out that bitcoin has shown more resilience than in the past bear markets. He put the current market drawdown at roughly 55%, well short of the typical 75% to 80% collapses that defined earlier cycles.
βThatβs actually a good sign that thereβs a lot of net buyers going into the next bull phase of bitcoin,β Scaramucci told CNBC.Β
The catalyst for the bull run, he believes, will be bitcoinβs supply cut in the next halving, which is still around 18 to 19 months away.
βI think youβll see the thing move back up over $100,000,β Scaramucci said. βBut itβs going to grind for a while,β he added.
Standard Chartered calls $100,000 BTC by year-end
Standard Chartered is also of the view that bitcoin will return above the $100,000 mark, but as soon as the yearβs end.Β
The price target represents a 55% increase from the current price of $64,350, at the time of writing.Β
βWhen we look back at the end of 2026 with bitcoin at $100k we will say this was the buying zone we all wanted,β Geoffrey Kendrick, the βglobal head of digital assets research at Standard Chartered, said in a June report.Β
